05/03/10 Music Monday

On the first Monday of May each year, Roland Canada helps the Coalition for Music Education celebrate Music Monday, a popular annual event that brings together Canada’s children for a moment of musical magic. Schools from across the country take their music programs outside and unite in concert through one song; stressing the importance of music in our lives and especially in our schools.

On May 3rd, 2010, the 6th annual Music Monday event hosted hundreds of thousands of students from every province and territory across Canada performing “Sing Sing” by Canadian singer-songwriter, Serena Ryder, at exactly 10AM PST. This particular piece of music aligns itself perfectly with the message of Music Monday as the lyrics invite everyone, no matter their location or talent, to just sing!

To pledge its support for such an inspiring achievement, Roland Canada rewarded Tomken Road Middle School in Mississauga, ON, for their efforts and participation in Music Monday with a donation of an HD-1 V-Drums Lite Kit package, which includes a PM-01 Personal Drum Monitor, DAP-1 V-Drums Accessory Kit and a copy of Roland’s DT-HD-1 Drum Tutor Software.

Last year, the lucky recipient of Roland Canada’s Music Monday donation was the Calgary Arts Academy in Calgary, AB. With a sole purpose of promoting the arts, the Calgary Arts Academy is an innovative school that engages children through arts immersion to become confident learners and spirited citizens.
